Barlow returns medal
Last week Council of Canadians National Chairperson Maude Barlow returned her Diamond Jubilee medal to Rideau Hall, the official residence of the Governor General. In
a letter to Governor General David Johnston accompanying the medal, Barlow wrote, "As a protest over both these terrible omnibus bills (C-38 and C-45), passed with no consultation with either First Nations or Canadians other than the energy industry, and your refusal to meet directly with First Nations as the representative of the institution with whom they signed their treaties, I am returning this medal."
